DEAR CHURCH FAMILY,

As we celebrate our 45th year of being The Woodlands Methodist Church, I reflect on the journey and the people that brought us here. So many have worked so diligently to build a lasting community of Methodist faith that has sought to do the same thing, year after year: Reach People for Jesus Christ, Disciple Them in Faith, and Help Those in Need.

These words have not only kept us moving forward, but also given us so many reasons to be thankful for God's blessings upon our congregation and His grace through all the seasons of this church. I hope you find yourself in a moment of peace amidst the often-hectic moments — a moment where you, too, sense the ripples in your own life that started as a stirring of God's hand through this church. I hope you feel joy in that moment, as I do, thinking “That’s My Church!”

Your Pastor,
Mark Sorensen

WHY WE PLANT

by Rev. Dr. Jeff Olive, Executive Pastor of Church Planting

Church planting is the air you breathe when you open the New Testament, as the New Testament is largely written to a collection of church plants. And yet surveys show that only 7% of churches in the U.S. are engaged in multiplying and seeing new churches planted.

Matthew 28:19-20 reads: “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

In this Great Commission, the imperative is to “make disciples.” But the Scripture also tells us how we are to make disciples. We will do this by going, baptizing and teaching. As we read further, the Book of Acts makes it clear that we are baptized into a community with accountability, fellowship and teaching.

Virtually all of the significant evangelistic challenges of the New Testament are calls to plant churches, not simply to share the faith. This is why leading missiologist C. Peter Wagner said, “Planting new churches is the most effective evangelistic methodology known under heaven.”

TWMC believes our call to make disciples is also a call to plant churches. Over the next year, you will continue to hear more about how our church is working to recruit, assess, train and send church planters out into the world.

HELPING AS A CHURCH

We share authentic compassion with those in need through the giving of our resources and by sharing the restoration that comes through faith in Jesus. We empower others by giving a hand up to those in need.

COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIPS

Jesus tells us to love others, every day. We multiply the opportunity for doing so through our partnerships in surrounding communities.

STUDENT REVIVAL

FORGE weekend is a time of revival and awakening for our high school students. It is said that our youth are the most neglected mission field, with the most potential in solidifying the future body of Christ. This church prays for the Holy Spirit to ignite a fire of evangelism in our students that may spread into the community, reaching those who have not felt the touch of God in their lives.

CONFIRMATION

Confirmation is a big step in a child’s personal faith journey, readying him or her for a life of discipleship and Christian service. Our Confirmation program prepares 6th graders to claim the Christian faith as their own.

COLLEGE-AGE FAITH

The age of lost faith is between 18 and 30 years old. Our college ministry and young adult ministry are creating space where students are not only welcome, but also spiritually fed. We aim to build them up so that they may maintain strong faith and community in a time when their peers are leaving the church.

DISCIPLE THEM IN FAITH

The second part of the church’s three-part mission statement is “disciple them in faith.” The G.R.O.W. discipleship pathway provides opportunities for renewing focus and growing deeper in faith. We have a goal to have 100% of active membership fully in our G.R.O.W, discipleship pathway. We desire to be intentional in providing opportunities to grow, people to grow with, and places to serve, worship and live out our faith.

YOU ARE A LEADER

A leader is a teacher, an encourager and an influencer. We are a church devoted to raising up leaders who exemplify the life of Jesus and are motivated to be agents of change in the world. We will develop leaders who dedicate their lives to see God’s Great Commission fulfilled.

GROWING LEADERS

2023 is the year of raising up new church leaders. Look for G.R.O.W. Leadership Training updates starting this spring.

STUDENT LEADERSHIP TEAM

On any given week, 400-500 junior high and high school students participate in worship and Bible study with Student Ministry. That’s a lot of teenagers! The Student Ministry team makes everything happen with help from the Student Leadership Team. With six teams made up of more than 100 student leaders, the Student Leadership Team participants preach, lead Bible studies, provide worship music, organize missions projects, run media and make everyone feel welcome. Through weekly meetings, the Student Ministry shepherds mentor, guide and teach these student leaders, preparing them for a lifetime of ministry and service.
